North State Giving Tuesday
November 2024
"This past summer, I was fortunate to be employed full time as a Medical Assistant in my hometown of Burney, California. I am very appreciative for the time I spent there, as it exposed me to many skill sets I will need to master in Nursing school--including giving injections, drawing blood, and communicating with healthcare providers about patient needs. It was a joy to glean from others experience. As I recently wrapped up my Junior year at Grand Canyon University, I am excited to share that I have been accepted into the GCU Nursing Program, including the clinical portion. Here, I will spend the next consecutive four semesters completing my Nursing degree to graduate with my Bachelors of Science in Nursing. During my final semester as a Junior in college, I have been volunteering at Phoenix Children’s Hospital in both the Kidney Dialysis Center and the 10th floor, which includes patients with endocrine and gastrointestinal disorders. This has allowed me to have first-hand experience of what it is like to work with children in this setting. I have developed relationships with many of the littles and feel incredibly grateful for the time I have spent with them.”

Each year, Mayers Healthcare Foundation participates in North State Giving Tuesday. Giving Tuesday is a movement that began in 2012 to promote charitable giving during the Thanksgiving holiday season. It has become an international phenomenon with billions of dollars donated online to nonprofit organizations on the first Tuesday following Thanksgiving Day. North State Giving Tuesday provides nonprofit organizations the opportunity to gain exposure and start relationships with new donors, and for the people in Shasta, Siskiyou and Tehama counties to come together to raise as much money as possible for participating organizations within a 14-hour period.
This year, Mayers Healthcare Foundation is dedicating funds contributed through North State Giving Tuesday to the Mayers Memorial Hospital District Employee Scholarship and CNA Program. We believe this will lead to many great partnerships and careers providing for the healthcare needs of the residents in our Inter-Mountain communities.
The Community Foundation of the North State developed and launched North State Giving Tuesday (NSGT) as an online networking and giving event for Shasta, Siskiyou, and Tehama county nonprofits. NSGT has significantly grown in popularity and impact each year, raising nearly $4 million since inception.
